Congratulations to the 2024 Beth Delzoppo Scholarship recipients

Congratulations to Jack Hamilton and Duncan Bain, the 2024 recipients of the Beth Delzoppo Scholarship.

The scholarship, named after local legend Beth Delzoppo, recognises the important role education plays in shaping students’ futures. The Community Bank Neerim District scholarship program is designed to ease the financial burden on students, ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge is not hindered by economic constraints.

“We’re proud to be able to offer support through a scholarship to the local community. Nobody should miss out on education because of their circumstances,” Clive Patrickson, Chair of Neerim District Community Enterprise, that operates the Community Bank Neerim District, said.

The scholarship aims to assist academically motivated students from Neerim District including Noojee, Jindivick, Buln Buln, Neerim South, Neerim East, Neerim North, Neerim and Rockeby. Eligible applicants need to have been offered a place at an Australin University, TAFE Institute or College, and be in their first year of tertiary study and are experiencing challenging circumstances.

It supports the following study related expenses: accommodation costs, course costs, study-related materials/equipment, textbooks, tutoring and/or education related travel (within Australia).

“Getting the scholarship means a lot to me. I can put my focus and brain power towards my studies rather than stressing about my finances,” Jack said.

He’s currently studying a Bachelor’s degree in Paramedic Practice (honours) at Latrobe University. “I hope and intend to be a person in society that can be relied upon to help others and protect people. I admire the work that paramedics undertake each day, and the fast-paced and adrenaline-filled nature of this job is what I look forward to being a part of. I plan on potentially moving to the city and beginning a career as a paramedic,” Jack said.

Duncan is studying at Deakin University, doing a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science. “This scholarship grants me the ability to fund my own schooling and become more independent as a new student at a university,” Duncan said. “After I graduate from my Bachelors, I want to study my Masters of Physiotherapy, then become a qualified physiotherapist.”

Applicants have to be first-time tertiary students at University or TAFE and aged 25 years or younger to be eligible to apply. The scholarship is $2,000 per year for three years.

“Just apply for it. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t get a scholarship and it’s a huge opportunity that will help you a lot,” Jack said.

Applications for the 2025 scholarships open in October 2024. For more information visit www.bendigobank.com.au/neerim.
